NEWS # 020
Hi everyone!
Am up at 3.15 am as I have to be at the airport for 4.00 for the 6.00 am
flight. Whilst in the departure lounge, I meet my friend Katherine, from
Montanita. She is an air hostess and is going to Cuzco at 6.00 too.
Unfortunately, the company has two planes doing the same flight
simultaneously, she is on one and me, the other! We will meet up when I
return to Lima.
The flight is short, an hour and a half and we soon arrive in Cuzco. At the
airport, am accosted by a guy who drives me to my accommodation, the Hostal
Tumi, very cheap at 5.00 dollars a night and then sells me a tour of the
interesting sites in Cuzco, for 7.00!
He is very pleasant and takes me to my
travel agent through whom I had booked the Inca Trail. I confirm my Trail
and pay and then go to the Hostal to sleep for a few hours.
llamas and alpacas everywhere ...
Later I go on the City tour which is amazing and includes most of the
important Inca sites. Many of the walls built by the Incas still stand and
are made of huge interlocking pieces of stone which seem pretty earthquake-proof. We see many llamas and alpacas and I buy yet another jumper and some
presents at rather cheaper than European prices!
Later I go to an excellent veggie restaurant recommended by the South
American Explorer's Club. The place is run by a guy from Swindon, of all
places! The food is excellent. I crash out fairly early.
The next day, I just chill and meet the other guys and girls from the
hostel. I'm off on the Trail tomorrow and need to rest as it's another early
start at 4.00am.
That's all for now. Am away from civilisation for a few days but will write
on my return.
Seeya,
